Geriatric Care

Whether it's traveling, spending time with grandchildren, playing pickleball, or simply feeling well enough to enjoy each day to its fullest — your golden years deserve to be exactly that. At Natura, we are passionate about helping older adults stay healthy, vibrant, and active for as long as possible. We understand that the body changes with age, and we are here to support you through those changes with comprehensive, individualized naturopathic care that honors where you are and where you want to be.
We are here for seniors and for the family members who love them and want to help them thrive.
Our Approach
Aging is not a disease — but it does bring a unique set of physiological changes that require thoughtful, age-aware medical care. At Natura, we take the time to understand your full health picture: your conditions, your medications, your lifestyle, your goals, and what matters most to you. We interpret your lab results with your age in mind, recognizing that reference ranges shift across the lifespan and that what is "normal" for a 35-year-old is not necessarily optimal for a 75-year-old.
We work collaboratively with your other providers — your primary care physician, your specialists, your physical therapist — because great senior care is almost always a team effort. Our role is to fill in the gaps, ask the deeper questions, and bring a whole-person naturopathic perspective to your care that complements what your other providers offer.
Health Concerns We Support in Older Adults
Aging brings a distinct set of health concerns, many of which naturopathic medicine is exceptionally well-suited to address. Below are some of the most common areas we support — many of which have their own dedicated pages on our site with more detailed information.
Hormonal Changes. Hormonal shifts don't stop at midlife. Changes in estrogen, testosterone, thyroid function, adrenal output, and other hormones continue to influence energy, mood, metabolism, bone density, cognitive function, and quality of life well into the senior years. We support ongoing hormonal health as an integral part of healthy aging.
Cardiovascular Health. Heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and circulation concerns are among the most common health challenges facing older adults. We offer comprehensive cardiovascular support through naturopathic therapies, lifestyle medicine, and pharmaceutical care when appropriate.
Cognitive Health & Memory. Supporting brain health is one of the most meaningful things we can do for older patients. Our approach to cognitive health and dementia prevention focuses on ensuring brain neurons are getting the nutrition they need, reducing neuroinflammation, identifying and addressing genetic risk factors, minimizing exposure to things that worsen neurological function, and implementing evidence-based lifestyle interventions — including sleep, movement, social connection, and stress reduction.
Osteoporosis & Bone Health. Bone density naturally declines with age, increasing the risk of fractures and loss of independence. We support bone health through targeted nutrition, hormonal assessment, appropriate supplementation, and lifestyle guidance — and collaborate with other providers on fall risk reduction.
Blood Sugar & Diabetes. Type 2 diabetes and insulin resistance are extremely common in older adults and carry significant consequences for cardiovascular, cognitive, and kidney health. We support patients with diabetes and metabolic concerns through dietary guidance, targeted supplementation, lifestyle support, and pharmaceutical care when warranted.
Macular Degeneration & Vision Health. Age-related macular degeneration is a leading cause of vision loss in older adults. We support eye health through targeted nutritional therapies — including lutein, zeaxanthin, omega-3 fatty acids, and antioxidant support — alongside regular monitoring and collaboration with your ophthalmologist.
Mental Health & Emotional Wellbeing. Depression, anxiety, grief, and social isolation are among the most common and most underdiagnosed health concerns in older adults. We take mental health in seniors seriously and provide compassionate, individualized support — recognizing that emotional wellbeing is inseparable from physical health.
Sleep. Sleep architecture changes significantly with age, and poor sleep is one of the most consequential and underaddressed drivers of cognitive decline, cardiovascular risk, immune vulnerability, and reduced quality of life in older adults. We assess and address sleep concerns as a foundational part of senior health.
Digestive Health. Digestion changes with age — motility slows, stomach acid production declines, and nutrient absorption becomes less efficient. We support healthy digestion and gut function in older adults as a cornerstone of overall health and nutritional status.
Chronic Pain Arthritis, neuropathy, and generalized chronic pain are among the most significant quality-of-life concerns for older adults. We offer naturopathic pain support through anti-inflammatory therapies, targeted supplementation, herbal medicine, and collaboration with pain specialists and physical therapists.
Urinary Health Urinary incontinence, frequency, and urgency are extremely common in older adults — and extremely undertreated, often because patients feel embarrassed to bring them up. We address these concerns openly and without judgment, with naturopathic and lifestyle-based approaches tailored to the underlying cause.
Nutritional Deficiencies The ability to absorb key nutrients declines with age, and deficiencies in B12, vitamin D, magnesium, zinc, and others are common and consequential in older adults. We assess nutritional status as a routine part of senior care and address deficiencies proactively.
Immune Health The immune system becomes less robust with age — a phenomenon known as immune senescence — leaving older adults more vulnerable to infections, slower to recover, and at higher risk for certain cancers and autoimmune conditions. We support immune resilience through targeted naturopathic care.
Fall Risk While fall prevention is primarily addressed in collaboration with physical therapists and other movement specialists, we support overall physical function, muscle health, and bone integrity as part of a broader approach to keeping you steady and safe.
Comprehensive Lab Testing. We run thorough, age-aware laboratory evaluations for our senior patients — going well beyond basic panels to assess the full picture of your metabolic, hormonal, nutritional, and organ system health. Importantly, we interpret your results with your age in mind, recognizing that optimal reference ranges shift across the lifespan.
Medication & Supplement Review — Polypharmacy Support. Managing multiple medications is one of the most complex and consequential aspects of senior health. Many older adults are taking five, ten, or more medications simultaneously — and the interactions between them, and between medications and supplements, are not always well monitored.
At Natura, we are well equipped to help. We have access to clinical databases that allow us to perform comprehensive interaction checks across your full medication and supplement list. If we have prescribed any of those medications or supplements, we can help you navigate interactions directly. If they were prescribed by another provider, we can prepare a detailed summary for you to bring to your primary care physician or specialist — empowering you to have that conversation with the right provider.
Cognitive & Brain Health Support. As described above, our approach to cognitive health is multi-pronged: nutritional support for brain function, reduction of neuroinflammation, genetic assessment where relevant, lifestyle optimization, and minimizing exposures that worsen neurological function. We tailor this approach to each patient's history, risk factors, and goals.
Collaborative Care. We work alongside your existing healthcare team — primary care physicians, cardiologists, neurologists, endocrinologists, physical therapists, and others — to ensure your naturopathic care complements and strengthens your overall care plan. We communicate with your providers when appropriate and help you navigate the sometimes complex landscape of managing multiple health concerns and multiple voices.
Home Visits. Depending on patient need and provider availability, home visits may be possible for senior patients who have difficulty traveling to our clinic. Please call our office to discuss whether this is an option for your situation.
How We Support Senior Patients
A Note on Medicare
Medicare does not cover naturopathic physicians at the federal level. As such, we do not bill Medicare for our services. However, we are committed to working alongside your Medicare providers to ensure that as much of your overall care as possible is covered through your existing plan. For full information about payment options and insurance at Natura, please visit our Payment & Insurance page.
We want coming to Natura to be as easy as possible. Our clinic is located at street level — fully accessible for patients using a wheelchair, walker, or cane — with convenient parking nearby. Our waiting room features comfortable, flexible seating, and our clinical rooms can accommodate a range of mobility and seating needs. We already offer longer appointment times as a standard part of our naturopathic care, and we are happy to accommodate additional time when needed. Please let us know at the time of scheduling if you have any accessibility needs and we will make sure everything is ready for you.
